Joe Josytewa, a Hopi Native American silversmith, handmade a beautiful belt buckle that features 3 Kokopellis, playing their flutes to chase away the harsh winter weather with hopes that the spring rains will insure success in the planting and growing of their crops.  

The artist used a process called Hopi overlay that involves using two layers of sterling silver.  Joe's craftsmanship is remarkable in style and balance.  He has precision cuttings in his designs and uniformed etched backgrounds that he has blackened in the traditional Hopi style.  

 Joe Josytewa is a member of the Snow Clan who lives on the Second Mesa.  He was born into an extended family of silversmiths who specialize in traditional Hopi overlay jewelry.  Joe Josytewa signs each of his handcrafted pieces with his name and personal hallmark – a snowflake.
